Strings technology and composite core technology are making
big advances in the products available for string players
today. There are many types of violin strings, cello strings,
bass and viola strings available for every players taste.
Violin strings and other instrument strings have historically
been made of sheep gut, after that came steel and then
came synthetics.
Now composite core materials are being
used to make violin strings and other strings for the
first time. These new types of cello, bass, viola and violin
strings have many of the same advantages of synthetic
core string but with a longer life span. This is due to
less tension loss during the life of the string. People
find that these new strings hold a more satisfying sound
longer, and therefore have to be replaced less often. Violin
strings, cello strings, viola strings and bass strings
of this type are Pirastro Obligato, Evah Pirazzi and Corelli
Alliance and D'Addario Zyex. Pirastro's Violino is the
most budget priced of this variety.
While Thomastik Dominant strings
have been the popular choice for synthetic core violin
strings, cello strings, viola strings and bass strings
for years, there are some very good alternatives. D'Addario
Pro Arte, Pirastro's Tonica, Aricore and Synoxa and the
Corelli Crystal are all similar to Dominant strings.
Now is the time to see what is out there and try some other
brands of violin strings, cello strings, bass and viola
strings. Who knows, you may find another favorite!
